(The Book of Hugs is a perfect synthesis of the most inspired imagination of its author. Celebrations, successes, prophecies, chronicles, dreams, and memories - delicious short stories in which even the walls speak.)"

Picture
Spanish teacher, Ms. Mayren Arguelles, sponsors Model UN club and in her free time, enjoys chatting with friends, hugging her kids, cooking, and taking photos.

Ms. Arguelles enjoys all genres and made this selection because: "This book it is a strange mixture of micro-stories, memories, thoughts and reflections of the Latin-American author, and perhaps, like life, an undefined mix between the real and the fiction. Hugs that take us through the human mind and its deepest thoughts, but also hugs to those little things of everyday life. It is a reflection of common life and a sample of the world we live in."

Kiffe Kiffe Demain by Faëza Guène

Picture

Ms. Manuela Vieira, Ms. Mahasti Mofazali and Ms. Cara Dey teach a variety of French language courses. Ms. Mofazali sponsors Arts Mag and Cav Prom, Ms. Vieira sponsors Backpack Buddies and Ms. Dey sponsors Thunderbird Mentoring.

They enjoy fiction and biographies. So why this selection? "It's a very current book which deals with the hot topic of the lives of immigrants in France. From a cultural perspective, this book shows a different, darker side of Paris. It has been translated into 27 languages; there will even be a movie coming out soon."

La Casa En Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

Picture
(The House on Mango Street is a 1984 coming-of-age/bildungsroman novel by Mexican-American author Sandra Cisneros. It is written from the perspective of teenage Latina, Esperanza Cordero, who struggles with her life in a Chicano and Puerto Rican neighborhood of Chicago.)"

Picture
Ms. Patricia Castaneda teaches Spanish 10, 11 and 12 and AP Spanish and is part of the Backpack Buddies team. In her free time, she spend time with her family and friends, reads, and goes for walks on the Seawall."

Of her selection, she explains: "I selected this book as it is written from a teenager's point of view and it talks about what it is like to live in a community different than hers."
